Captain N Comics

In the late 80's and early 90's, most gamers were familiar with Captain N the Game Master Saturday morning TV show. Though Mother Brain was the main antagonist, not a single episode featured our gal Samus. The Valiant-published Captain N Comics, however, made up for that. These comics were the first to depict a backstory for Samus, as well as long blonde hair and a greedy personality, but has since been retconned by Nintendo.

Included:
  1. The Best of the Nintendo Comics System
  2. Welcome to Videoland - Money Changes Everything
  3. The Happy Zone
  4. The Fabulous Powers of Captain N
  5. Prison World - Breakout
  6. Garbage World
  7. The Master Machine
Famitsu Comix: The Shape of Happiness

Another MDb exclusive! Not much is known about Famitsu Comix, but this rare tankobon volume was released in March of 1989. In it features a 6-page, one-off comic featuring Metroid, and seems to be part of an ongoing series called The Shape of Happiness. The Metroid part is The Shape of Happiness 9, 10 and 11.

This manga is notable in that it was drawn by Tamakichi Sakura, the artist who drew the Super Mario World comics which were featured in Nintendo Power in the 90s. We hope you enjoy our scanlation of this short, lighthearted comic!

Metroid Prime Comics
The Metroid Prime comics were published in late 2002 in Nintendo Power issues 164-166. Created by Dreamwave, a subsidiary of Dark Horse Comics, this comic features a short, 24-page version of the Metroid Prime storyline. Artistic license has been taken with the story and it is somewhat inconsistent with the game, such as having Samus fight Thardus in the Chozo Ruins.
Super Metroid Comics

The Super Metroid comics, drawn and written by Benimaru Itoh, were released in Nintendo Power issues 57 to 61 in the summer of 1994. They contain a highly paraphrased version of the game's storyline, and the introduction of new characters such as Old Bird, Chairman Keaton and Armstrong Houston.

Included:
  • Chapter 1: Red Alarm!
  • Chapter 2: Zebes Rising
  • Chapter 3: Back to the Nest
  • Chapter 4: Samus' Story
  • Chapter 5: The Final Battle
